About Stotras

Stotras (स्तोत्र) are Sanskrit hymns of praise, prayer, and remembrance—often in classical metres and preserved in Puranas, stotra-mālās, bhakti anthologies, and regional prayer books. They express devotion (bhakti), recount divine names and deeds, and support daily worship, festival observances, and quiet japa at home or in the temple. Unlike fixed Vedic śākhā recitation, many stotras are widely shared across communities. On Haindavam they are organized by deity so you can open ashtakams, nama-valis (including sahasranāma-style lists), kavachams, kīrtanas, pūjā-vidhi outlines, and related hymns in one place. Where we provide them, Devanagari (or the source script), IAST transliteration, and meaning in several languages help you read clearly and understand what you recite. • Tap a deity above, then pick a text; use the site language switcher when translations are available. • Pronunciation and rhythm improve with repetition; for mantra initiation or long-term discipline, study with a qualified teacher in your lineage. • Sampradāya and regional customs differ—use this collection as a respectful guide, not the final word on every local practice.
