About

Yama Panchaka is a five-day festive period honoring Lord Yama, the God of Death, and his sister Yamuna. It begins with Dhanteras (Krishna Trayodashi) and culminates on Bhai Dooj (Yama Dwitiya).

Significance:

This period highlights the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. It is believed that worshipping Lord Yama during these five days prevents untimely death (Apamrityu) and brings longevity, health, and prosperity to the family.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Yama Deepam: Lighting a lamp facing south on Dhanteras evening outside the home for Lord Yama. 2. Narak Chaturdashi: Taking an oil bath before sunrise to cleanse oneself of sins and ward off hell (Naraka). 3. Diwali: Celebrating the main festival of lights. 4. Bhai Dooj (Yama Dwitiya): Sisters apply a protective tilak on their brothers' foreheads and pray for their long lives, recalling how Yamuna welcomed Yama to her home.
