Yama Deepam is observed on the evening of Dhanteras. It is a ritual dedicated to Lord Yama, the God of Death.
Lighting a lamp for Lord Yama is believed to ward off 'Apamrityu' or untimely death and protect family members from harm. It is also a way to honor ancestors and seek their blessings for a long and healthy life.
1. Directional Lamp: Lighting a four-faced earthen lamp (Diya) filled with oil and placing it outside the house facing south. 2. Evening Prayer: Performing the ritual during the 'Pradosh' kaal (dusk) with deep reverence. 3. Prayer: Reciting a simple prayer to Lord Yama for the safety and well-being of the household.
