About

Smarta Krishna Janmashtami is a highly auspicious festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. The Smarta tradition places primary emphasis on the Nishita Kaal (Hindu midnight), the exact time when Krishna is believed to have been born.

Significance:

This day commemorates the moment when the divine light entered the world to destroy unrighteousness and restore Dharma. Fasting on this day is believed to cleanse one of past sins and bring eternal spiritual merit.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Fasting: Devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day, breaking it only after the midnight puja. 2. Midnight Puja: The main ritual occurs at the stroke of midnight. An idol of baby Krishna (Ladoo Gopal) is bathed in Panchamrit (milk, ghee, honey, curd, and sugar) and adorned with new clothes. 3. Recitation: Reciting the 'Krishna Ashtakam', 'Vishnu Sahasranama', and listening to stories from the Bhagavata Purana. 4. Offerings: Special offerings of Makhan (white butter), panjiri, and sweets are made to the Lord.
