About

Sama Veda Upakarma is the annual ceremony for the followers of the Sama Veda to renew their sacred thread and commence their Vedic studies. It is observed during the Hasta Nakshatra in the solar month of Simha (Avani).

Significance:

It is a day of spiritual cleansing and dedication to the Sama Veda, which is known for its musical and rhythmic recitation of the hymns. It honors the ancient sages who preserved and transmitted this knowledge.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Snana & Sankalpa: Taking a purificatory bath and making a firm resolve (Sankalpa) to observe the rites. 2. Yajnopavita Dharana: Discarding the old sacred thread and wearing a new one with Vedic chants. 3. Rishi Tarpanam: Offering oblations to the profound seers of the Sama Veda. 4. Veda Parayanam: Recitation of verses from the Sama Veda under the guidance of a Guru.
