About

Rigveda Upakarma is the annual sacred thread-changing and Vedic study initiation ceremony for followers of the Rig Veda. It is observed when the Shravana Nakshatra prevails in the solar month of Simha (Avani).

Significance:

Upakarma means 'beginning' and marks the commencement of the Vedic study term. It is a day of spiritual renewal, expressing gratitude to the ancient Rishis, and purifying the mind and body.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Kamokarsheeth: Reciting stotras to seek forgiveness for sins committed over the past year. 2. Yajnopavita Dharana: Wearing the newly sanctified sacred thread while reciting specific stotras. 3. Rishi Tarpanam: Offering water oblations to the seers (Rishis) to honor their contribution to Vedic knowledge. 4. Veda Arambha: Formal commencement of reciting Vedic hymns.
