About

Nariyal Purnima, or Coconut Full Moon, is a significant festival for the fishing communities of coastal India, particularly in Maharashtra and Goa. It marks the end of the monsoon season and the return of fishing activities.

Significance:

The festival is dedicated to Lord Varuna, the God of the Sea. Devotees express gratitude for protection during the monsoons and pray for safe voyages, calm waters, and a bountiful catch in the coming season.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Coconut Offering: Offering coconuts to the sea as a gesture of respect and gratitude. 2. Sea Worship: Reciting sacred names like 'Om Vam Varunaya Namah' while making offerings. 3. Boat Decoration: Fishermen decorate their boats with garlands and flags for the first trip of the season. 4. Traditional Foods: Preparing special coconut-based dishes like Narali Bhaat (coconut rice).
