About

Magha Shraddha is a highly sacred day for ancestor worship during the Pitru Paksha, occurring when the Magha Nakshatra prevails in the solar month of Kanya.

Significance:

Magha Nakshatra is uniquely associated with the Pitrus (ancestors) themselves, making it one of the most powerful days in the Mahalaya period. Rites performed on this day are said to immensely satisfy the ancestors and secure their profound blessings for the family's lineage and prosperity.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Ancestor Worship: Conducting elaborate Shraddha ceremonies. 2. Offering Oblations: Providing sesame seeds and water (Tarpanam) specifically during the Aparahna (afternoon) period. 3. Charity: Donating food, clothing, and Dakshina to Vedic scholars and the needy. 4. Lighting Lamps: Lighting a lamp facing south, the direction of Yama and the Pitrus.
