About

Observed on the full moon day of Ashadha, dedicated to Goddess Sati's legendary penance.

Significance:

Legend says Goddess Sati spent a thousand years in the form of a cuckoo (Kokila) as a penance to reunite with Lord Shiva. The vrat is observed for marital bliss and to gain the favor of the Divine Mother.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Moonrise Puja: The main worship is performed when the moon rises in the evening. 2. Listening: Devotees listen for the call of the cuckoo as a sacred sign. 3. Fasting: Observing a fast until the evening moonrise rituals are completed.
