Karthigai Deepam
Karthigai Deepam is observed in the solar month of Vrischika (Karthigai) when the Krittika Nakshatra aligns with the full moon. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful festivals of lights.
The festival commemorates the legend of Lord Shiva appearing as an infinite pillar of fire (Jyotirlinga). It symbolizes the victory of knowledge over ignorance and the light of the soul over the darkness of the ego.
