About
Kali Puja, also known as Shyama Puja, is dedicated to the fierce Goddess Maha Kali. It is mainly celebrated in Bengal, Odisha, and Assam, often coinciding with Diwali night.
Significance:
Goddess Kali represents the destructive aspect of the divine that destroys ignorance and ego. Worshipping her on this dark Amavasya night brings protection from evil forces, courage, and spiritual awakening.
Rituals & Puja Vidhi:
1. Midnight Puja: The main worship takes place during the Nishita Kalam (midnight). 2. Offerings: Red hibiscus flowers, sweets, and sometimes traditional animal sacrifice (or symbolic vegetable sacrifice) are offered. 3. Pandals: Beautifully decorated pandals are set up with clay idols of the Goddess. 4. Lighting Lamps: Just like Diwali, homes are illuminated with earthen lamps.
