About

Gayatri Japam is a sacred observance traditionally performed on the day following Yajurveda Upakarma. It is exclusively dedicated to the intense recitation of the sacred Gayatri Mantra.

Significance:

The Gayatri Mantra is revered as the mother of all Vedas (Veda Mata). Performing Gayatri Japam on this specific day is considered a powerful prayaschitta (atonement) for any lapses in the daily performance of Sandhyavandanam over the past year. The intense Japa spiritually recharges the practitioner, cleanses accumulated karmic impurities, and awakens divine intellect and wisdom.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Sankalpam: Taking a formal vow (Sankalpa) early in the morning for the removal of sins. 2. Mantra Japa: Chanting the Gayatri Mantra precisely 1008 times (Sahasra Gayatri) using a japamala. 3. Homam: In some traditions, performing a Gayatri Homam to offer the fruits of the chanting to the Supreme. 4. Arghya Pradanam: Offering water oblations to the Sun God (Surya) as part of the Sandhyavandanam.
