Bhai Dooj, also known as Yama Dwitiya, is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in Kartika. It celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, following the legend of the Sun God's son, Yamaraj, visiting his sister Yamuna.
The festival highlights the unconditional love and protection that siblings provide each other. It is believed that any brother who receives a 'Tilak' and a meal from his sister on this day will never suffer an untimely death.
1. Tilak Ceremony: Sisters apply a vermilion Tilak on their brothers' foreheads and perform an Aarti to ward off evil. 2. Gift Exchange: Brothers give gifts to their sisters as a token of appreciation and love. 3. Traditional Meal: Sisters prepare a special feast for their brothers, and they dine together. 4. Prayers: Reciting stories of Yama and Yamuna to invoke divine blessings for long life.
