About

Andal Jayanthi, also known as Aadi Pooram, celebrates the birth anniversary of Goddess Andal, one of the 12 Alvars. It is observed when the Purva Phalguni (Pooram) Nakshatra prevails during the solar month of Karka (Aadi).

Significance:

Goddess Andal is believed to be an incarnation of Bhudevi (Mother Earth) and is revered for her unwavering devotion to Lord Ranganatha (Vishnu). The day celebrates her divine love and the poetic hymns she composed, the Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozhi.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Temple Celebrations: Grand festivities at Vaishnava temples, especially in Srivilliputhur, her birthplace. 2. Chariot Procession: Taking the decorated deity on a temple chariot (Rathotsavam). 3. Offering Bangles: Devotees offer glass bangles to the Goddess, which are then distributed as prasadam to seek marital bliss and progeny. 4. Recitation: Recitation of the Thiruppavai and other Pasurams.
