Vrischika Sankranti
Vrischika Sankranti marks the Sun's entry into the Vrischika (Scorpio) zodiac sign. It is also referred to as Vrischika Sankramana.
This Sankranti holds immense spiritual importance in South India, as it heralds the beginning of the Mandalam season. It marks the start of the austere 41-day Mandalakala Vratam dedicated to Lord Ayyappa.
1. Mudradharanam: Devotees of Lord Ayyappa begin their strict 41-day penance by wearing a Tulasi or Rudraksha mala. 2. Surya Puja: Offering prayers and water to the Sun God at dawn. 3. Temple Worship: Lighting lamps and offering special pujas in temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Ayyappa. 4. Charity: Donating winter clothing and food to the poor, which is considered highly auspicious during this cooling season.
