Tula Sankranti marks the Sun's transit into the Tula (Libra) zodiac sign. It is a significant observance in various regions, particularly in Karnataka and Odisha.
Significance:
In Odisha, it is celebrated as Garbhana Sankranti, honoring the agricultural cycle where the paddy crops are 'pregnant' with grain. In South India, it initiates the sacred month for Tula Snanam, a holy month of bathing in the river Kaveri.
Rituals & Puja Vidhi:
1. Tula Snanam: Taking a holy dip in the river Kaveri (especially at Talakaveri or Srirangam) which is believed to cleanse all sins. 2. Agricultural Rites: Farmers offer prayers in their paddy fields to Goddess Lakshmi for a rich harvest. 3. Dana: Offering fresh rice, grains, and seasonal vegetables as charity. 4. Goddess Worship: Special pujas dedicated to Goddess Parvati or Lakshmi for family prosperity.
