Prabodhini Ekadashi, also known as Dev Uthani or Haribodhini Ekadashi, is one of the most joyous observances. It marks the day Lord Vishnu awakens from His four-month cosmic slumber.
According to the Skanda Purana, this day concludes the Chaturmas period. It is believed that any spiritual practice undertaken on this day yields a million-fold result. It also marks the beginning of the Hindu wedding season. The day is famously celebrated as Tulasi Vivah, commemorating the ceremonial marriage of the sacred Tulsi plant to Lord Shaligram (Vishnu), symbolizing the union of the soul with the Supreme.
1. Fasting: Devotees observe a strict fast, breaking the vows taken during Chaturmas. 2. Tulasi Vivah: Performing the elaborate marriage ceremony of Tulsi and Shaligram in the evening. 3. Awakening Ritual: Singing special hymns and ringing bells to gently awaken the Lord. 4. Deep Daan: Lighting countless earthen lamps around the house and in temples to welcome the awakened Lord.
