Masika Skanda Shashti is a monthly festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, also known as Skanda, Kartikeya, or Subrahmanya, the commander-in-chief of the celestial army. It is observed on the sixth day of the Shukla Paksha every month.
Lord Murugan is the destroyer of the demon Surapadman and the embodiment of wisdom and courage. This monthly observance is a time to seek his blessings for victory over inner and outer enemies. It is particularly significant for those seeking protection and mental clarity.
1. Abhishekam: Performing a ritual bath for the deity with milk, panchamrita, and holy ash. 2. Recitation: Reciting the Skanda Sashti Kavasam or other hymns dedicated to Murugan. 3. Fasting: Observing a fast from sunrise until the completion of the evening puja. 4. Vel Worship: Worshipping the 'Vel' (divine spear) which symbolizes sharp intellect.
