Masika Karthigai is observed every month when the Krittika nakshatra prevails during the evening twilight (Sayam Sandhya).
Significance:
It is a festival of light, symbolizing the triumph of wisdom over ignorance. The day is particularly sacred to Lord Murugan and is celebrated with the lighting of lamps to invite divine radiance into the home.
Rituals & Puja Vidhi:
1. Lighting Lamps: Lighting several oil lamps (Deepams) around the house and at the entrance. 2. Temple Visit: Visiting Shiva or Murugan temples to witness special aratis. 3. Recitation: Reciting hymns dedicated to Lord Murugan or the 'Karthigai Deepam' verses. 4. Fasting: Some devotees observe a partial fast until the evening lamps are lit.
