About

Masika Kalashtami is a sacred day dedicated to Lord Kala Bhairava, the formidable manifestation of Lord Shiva who guards time and space. Per Vratraj, the fast falls on the civil day when Krishna Ashtami prevails during deep night: Ashtami must run at least one ghati after sunset and after Pradosha, cover local Nishita (including its opening when the tithi has ruled the day and evening), and wins over a split neighbor by greatest evening-to-dawn Ashtami presence.

Significance:

Lord Kala Bhairava is the master of time and the protector of devotees. Worshipping him on this day helps overcome fears, remove karmic obstacles, and protect against negative influences. It is a powerful time for spiritual discipline and the removal of ego.

Rituals & Puja Vidhi:

1. Bhairava Puja: Performing special worship for Lord Bhairava during the midnight Nishita hour. 2. Offerings: Offering black sesame seeds, mustard oil lamps, and black flowers to the deity. 3. Fasting: Observing a fast to gain the grace of the Lord of Time. 4. Feeding Dogs: Feeding black dogs, which are considered the sacred vehicle (vahana) of Lord Bhairava.
